Brilliant evening last Thursday at @realdomjoly Dom's speakeazy event. It's held on the first Thursday of the month at the @thesteamandwhistle in Cheltenham. Guest performers @thehouseofloveguychadwick and @harryjenkinscomedy were in great form; as was Sam, and also the piano tuner......don't ask! Go to Dom's website/TV channel for more information.

Freetown Christiania is a unique, self-governing intentional community in Copenhagen, Denmark, established in 1971 when squatters occupied disused military barracks. For those who are wondering, I can confirm that the sun is alive and well and living in the Isle of Wight!

For those who are wondering, I can confirm that the sun is alive and well and living in the Isle of Wight!

Ok, it is alot of building - over 1.2m sq ft! But £40b to renovate Westminster's houses of Parliament (a mere £33,333 per sq ft - if I have my decimal point in the right place for the UK)? Someone is taking the mick! Maybe the "powers that be" should get a couple more builders to quote!

The £40b amount currently quoted for a total refurbishment (which it apparently needs) would put the building in second place as the world's second most expensive to be "built" (second only to the $120b committed and due to complete shortly on Masjid al-Haram).

This cost also puts the home of government well ahead of the £30b committed to build the new Hinkley power station in Someset from scratch! We also annually commit a mere 25% of this outrageous amount towards maintaining the entire NHS portfolio each year!

Is this a sensible use of public funds when these are currently hard to come by? Someone obviously thinks so......however, no need to rush into action as apparently it is going to take about 4 years to make a decision!
